Frequently Asked Questions
Use the guide below to answer any questions you may have prior to your fitness consultation.
Do I have to follow the pre-consultation instructions?
In order for your assessment results to be accurate, it is essential that you follow the instructions on this page. You will also find them on the back of your temporary membership card along with information on the date of your initial consultation and the name of your Fitness Advisor. For instance, the level of water in your system will affect the accuracy of your body composition reading. Caffeine will elevate your resting heart rate and will negatively affect your cardiovascular assessment and recovery score. In addition, if you exercise or are fatigued prior to your consultation, you will certainly not fair as well in terms of your strength and endurance results.
How can I ensure the best experience for my Fitness Consultation?
The first step is to ensure that your health and history questionnaire is completed honestly and thoroughly. You should have received an email link to our secure online questionnaire and submitted the document for our Fitness Advisor to review prior to your appointment. This will enable your Advisor to identify health risks, physical limitations as well as the key goals and areas your wish to focus on. Ask your Fitness Advisor to explain anything that you don’t understand or are unsure of. You will receive the best possible recommendation to achieve your results, and a copy of your statistics will be emailed to you or printed off. You can compare them to national norms and standards in the results section below.
What happens if I miss my consultation appointment?
If you provide 24 hours notice you will not be charged for the service but you will have to re-book another appointment.
What if I’m not comfortable with a particular assessment?
Please let your Fitness Advisor know if there is any part of the assessment that you are unsure of or that makes you uncomfortable. You can opt out but in most cases our Advisor will explain the procedure and reason for the process to put you at ease. For instance, most of our facilities use a bio-impedance device (electrodes hooked up to your hands and feet or a step on unit) to measure body composition, if you are uncomfortable with using calipers. In some cases, a client may be unable to complete the cardiovascular assessment or a particular strength or endurance evaluation. Please do not worry about it or feel embarrassed or inadequate. Your initial consultation is just a starting point and there is no pass or fail. It is simply a benchmark to compare to future assessments. All that you should be concerned about is sticking with the program and making realistic improvements.
Why are so many members using Personal Trainers?
In many of our Pro-fitness facilities close to 40% of the membership base has hired a Trainer for educational purposes or to train with them for life. Whether it’s for motivation, education, technique, safety, nutrition, efficiency, planning or intensity, a Trainer can offer the best path to real long lasting results. They feel they need to invest in education to maximize the benefits of their memberships. Fitness is constantly evolving and Trainers are required to stay on the cutting edge in terms of upgrading their certifications and knowledge base. We use other professionals like accountants, lawyers, doctors, and mechanics in other areas of our life, so when it comes to fitness it makes sense to work with a pro.
Why should I invest in the 8 Week Member Experience? Isn’t one consultation enough?
Although one consultation is a good start to find out where you stand in terms of your level of fitness and your exercise knowledge, it is only a starting point. There is no pass or fail. It is simply a benchmark to see where you are starting from and where you should be going. Having one assessment without anything to compare it to takes away from the total value of the service. Isn’t it nice to know that your training efforts and the program you are using are actually getting you to your goals? And if they’re not, wouldn’t you want to have someone readjust your program or a least put you back on track? It’s easy to plateau and your scale at home is not usually the best way to indicate how you are doing. A follow up consultation in 8 weeks is one of the best ways to keep you motivated and enhance your fitness experience.
I’ve been working out for years, why do I have to do this?
We understand that clients are at different levels when it comes to exercise experience and knowledge. We truly provide the best possible member experience and get you the best results through assessment and education. For example, professional athletes have ongoing assessments to measure their progress and performance even though they are well versed in training methods. We know you will walk out of your consultation learning something new about how to improve your health while making your exercise experience more challenging and rewarding.
Will I receive an exercise program?
Many fitness facilities will provide members with a generic work out program with their membership. Because fitness needs are so different, the majority of these programs will either get some basic results for a very short time, not get any results, create further problems or potential imbalances or injuries, and lead to frustration and monotony. Exercise programs are available on a myriad of web sites and in numerous fitness and health magazines. If that’s all it took to get results, there would be no need for you to register with a fitness facility and meet with a Fitness Advisor. Most members require far more than a program. In fact, the real cause for lack of results has more to do with knowledge, technique, support, motivation and accountability. Your Advisor will do their very best to work on the causes of any obstacles standing n the way of your results, and will listen closely to your concerns and needs. Rest assured, you will be provided with the best possible solution to get you on track, allowing you to maximize your membership experience. Don’t settle for anything less!
Can I use the club before my consultation?
You will be given a temporary membership card to allow you to access our facilities prior to your consultation. We are also aware that many of you have trained at facilities in the past. If not, we highly recommend that you have a staff member demonstrate how to use some of the cardio equipment, and that you refrain from using any resistance training (exercise machines or free weights) until after your assessment. For those who have trained in the past, we ask that you use caution and common sense, and please ensure that all the questions on the PAR Q are answered honestly and completely during your membership registration.
Your Results and Helpful Charts
Your Fitness Advisor will email you a PDF of your assessment results. If you prefer, they can also provide you with a printout of the individual and summary reports.
With your consultation results, you are now able to use the various normative data charts to see how you compare to individuals in your age group.
Please remember that your initial results are only a starting point and you should in no way feel inadequate or defeated if you did not achieve the levels you were hoping for. This is why you are here, and you should congratulate yourself for taking the first step and getting a realistic picture in terms of what it takes to make a real change.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your fitness journey and we look forward to working with you and doing our very best to help you achieve your dreams and goals.
